While reading speed is a useful metric, it’s not the only one you should be aware of. We’re going to break down how your reading speed depends on both your habits and personal preferences.

How much do you read? Reading speed varies based on how much text you have to read each day. If you only read for 10 minutes at a time, your reading speed will be low compared with someone who reads for an hour at a stretch. As we mentioned above, this also applies if there are distractions in the room (i.e., watching Netflix in bed instead of devoting all of your attention to the book). The more focused and uninterrupted attention that can be given to reading materials over long periods of time will result in faster reading speeds overall.

How long do you stay focused during one sitting? Another factor that influences how fast or slow people read is whether they get distracted by other activities while doing so—and whether they come back later once they feel more alert again before continuing where they left off (which would also make them slower).

For example: if someone reads three paragraphs then pauses their book because they need something else done right away such as checking email or getting food from the downstairs refrigerator–or even just taking care of house chores–there’s nothing stopping them from picking up where those paragraphs left off later after completing those tasks first thing upon returning upstairs again.
