What is BAI? – Body adiposity index

The body fat index defines the total body mass consisting only of adipose tissue. BAI is calculated without using bodyweight instead of body mass index (BMI). Instead, use the size of your hips compared to a person’s height. Based on population studies, BAI is approximately equal to the body fat percentage for adult men and women of different nationalities. BAI provides a straightforward approach to measuring body fat percentage.

A body mass index requires body weight, while BAI only requires height and girth of the hips.

BAI is calculated as:

BAI = (HC / (HM)1.5) – 18

Where :

BAI = Body Adiposity Index
HM = Height in Metres
HC = Hip Circumference in Centimetres
